Our thick tongue and groove roof boards are made from 19mm pressure treated slow-grown spruce.
This heavy-duty material is perfect for withstanding anything the British weather can throw at it. Supported by full lengths of heavy-duty purlins, which come in a whopping 140mm x 45mm. These oversized purlins will prevent the roof from sagging. We use chunky 120mm x 120mm posts which not only look pleasing but they also support the heavy-duty roof purlins, guaranteeing a strong robust structure which is built to last.
You can customise your wooden porch canopy based on your favoured design. Pick a crown configuration that's most suited to the style of your property and create a stunning feature that will welcome any guest. Opting for a straight crown design is ideal for anyone after a more modern finish. Alternatively, you can choose to build your porch with a fanned-out crown for a look that's more traditional.
We only use full lengths of timber in our garden products - we don't glue separate offcut pieces together with finger joints. Not only are they stronger, but they look much better too. Other companies are happy to provide you with rough offcuts, mixed timber and finger jointed timber, creating an odd-looking weak garden building with an off-putting appearance. All of our timber Pergolas, Gazebos, Carports and Porches are fully pressure treated as standard. We take the pre-cut lengths of timber and place them in a large pressure treatment tank, where the timbers are impregnated with a non-toxic preservative.
We add a colourant during this process, giving the timber a rich brown colour. By pressure treating the timber, we can offer a genuine 10-year guarantee against rot and insect infestation. We only suggest that you apply a good quality water repellent to prolong the longevity of the timber. Slow Grown Spruce, Not Cheap Pine. Unlike our competitors, we only use high-quality spruce timber on our wooden products rather than cheap pine or mixed timber. Why do we use slow grown spruce rather than the much cheaper knotty pine alternatives? Spruce is considered more stable as it expands and contracts less than pine. This stability means that the spruce timbers in our garden buildings minimise splits from appearing as the timber changes along with the weather. We responsibly source all our timber, where it grows slowly in the cold northern regions. We all know the old adage of counting the rings to see how old a tree is, well our timber grows slower and takes longer to get to size meaning it has more rings in it.
This means it has a tighter grain, and each ring helps prevent cracks and shakes from appearing in the densely packed timber. Our wooden garden buildings and climbing frames really are built to last therefore we use only the highest quality, slow-grown spruce.Spruce is much more resilient to warps and splits compared to its cheaper alternative pine. Being a whitewood, it doesn't discolour anywhere near as much as pine so it is also much more aesthetically pleasing for a garden structure.
Considered more stable, less knotty and resinous than pine, spruce will also produce a lot less sap. It is also less dense meaning it is not as susceptible to mould and rot.
All of the timber in this Wooden Porch Canopy has been responsibly sourced and pressure-treated to ensure it lasts. Pressure treatment forces the wood preservative into the timber rather than simply dip treating (essentially just covering the exterior) like many companies still do. Unlike some competition, we can offer a genuine 10-year guarantee against wood-eating fungal and insect infestation on pressure-treated timber. All our Pressure Treated timber is for Use Class 3. We do not offer installation.
All our garden buildings have been designed for the DIY market and supplied with full pictorial instructions. Despite the care we take in selecting the very best Timber available, it can still be unpredictable as its very nature is to be porous and swell up when it gets wet. Any wooden product will do this throughout its life, but there are a few things you can do to help limit this movement. We would recommend that you use an appropriate water repellent treatment. This helps minimise the amount of moisture that the timber can absorb and thus minimises the risk of any major movement. (Please note: water repellent treatment is not the same as pressure treatment). Whether you opt to build your product yourself, do not be afraid to tighten the odd bolt here and there. Your product is a long-term investment, so it is only right to give it some love and care from time to time. Make sure that it is properly treated before the rainy months. For your ease and convenience, we include all the screws, bolts, nails, and other fixing needed to put together your wooden porch canopy. There is no need to worry about what sort of bolts or size of nails you'll need. We include all the right fixings for the job as standard. Flashing and brackets/fixings required to attach the porch to your wall are not included.
We recommend a flat, level, square concrete base with an allowance of at least 100mm on each side. A 4m by 3m building would have a base of 4.2m by 3.2m. All our wooden porch canopies are fully pressure treated as standard, reducing the likelihood of rot and insect infestation. Our model ranges come in different sizes you can choose from.
